The connection with ռակայ (ṙakay) was made already by Hiwnkʿearpēyēntean. Basil describes Ancient Greek ῥακά (rhaká) as \"a vernacular word of mild abuse used in the family circle\". For the sense development ‘fool’ → ‘child’ see խոխա (xoxa). Alternatively, the sense development is ‘worthless person’ → ‘profane person’ → ‘unbaptized person’ → ‘child’. For the alternation երախայ (eraxay) ~ երեխայ (erexay), compare Ancient Greek ῥαχά (rhakhá) ~ Aramaic רֵיקָא (rēqā), if we are not dealing with vowel assimilation within Armenian.\nThe initial ե- (e-) is a prothetic vowel added to words starting with ր- (r-) according to well-known phonotactic constraints of Armenian, as in եղբայր (ełbayr), երագ (erag), երակ (erak), երախ (erax), երասան (erasan) etc.\nDoublet of ռակայ (ṙakay).\nSee also Արախա (Araxa).", "forms": [ { "form": "eraxay", "tags": [ "romanization" ] }, { "form": "no-table-tags", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "table-tags" ] }, { "form": "xcl-noun-ի", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "inflection-template" ] }, { "form": "i-type", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "class" ] }, { "form": "երախայ", "roman": "eraxay", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "nominative", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայք", "roman": "eraxaykʻ", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "nominative", "plural" ] }, { "form": "երախայի", "roman": "eraxayi", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "genitive", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայից", "roman": "eraxayicʻ", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "genitive", "plural" ] }, { "form": "երախայի", "roman": "eraxayi", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "dative", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայից", "roman": "eraxayicʻ", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "dative", "plural" ] }, { "form": "երախայ", "roman": "eraxay", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "accusative", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայս", "roman": "eraxays", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "accusative", "plural" ] }, { "form": "երախայէ", "roman": "eraxayē", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "ablative", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայից", "roman": "eraxayicʻ", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "ablative", "plural" ] }, { "form": "երախայիւ", "roman": "eraxayiw", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "instrumental", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայիւք", "roman": "eraxayiwkʻ", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "instrumental", "plural" ] }, { "form": "երախայի", "roman": "eraxayi", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "locative", "singular" ] }, { "form": "երախայս", "roman": "eraxays", "source": "declension", "tags": [ "locative", "plural" ] } ], "head_templates": [ { "args": { "1": "xcl", "2": "adjective", "cat2": "", "g": "", "head": "" }, "expansion": "երախայ • (eraxay)", "name": "head" }, { "args": {}, "expansion": "երախայ • (eraxay)", "name": "xcl-adj" } ], "inflection_templates": [ { "args": { "1": "երախայ", "11": "երախայից", "13": "երախայ", "15": "երախայս", "17": "երախայէ", "19": "երախայից", "21": "երախայիւ", "23": "երախայիւք", "25": "երախայի", "27": "երախայս", "3": "երախայք", "5": "երախայի", "7": "երախայից", "9": "երախայի", "note": "", "type": "i-type" }, "name": "xcl-decl-noun" } ], "lang": "Old Armenian", "lang_code": "xcl", "pos": "adj", "related": [ { "roman": "srikay", "word": "սրիկայ" } ], "senses": [ { "glosses": [ "child- or simple-minded, silly" ], "links": [ [ "child", "child" ], [ "simple-minded", "simple-minded" ], [ "silly", "silly" ] ] } ], "synonyms": [ { "roman": "erexay", "word": "երեխայ" } ], "word": "երախայ" }
